Dante Tawfeeq, PhD


Dante Tawfeeq, PhD., is Copy Editor for Journal of African American Males in Education (JAAME). Dr. Danté Abdul-Lateef Tawfeeq is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at Adelphi University, in Long Island, N.Y. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Educational Testing Service in 2011; a 2005-2010 Fulbright Senior Specialist Candidate; 2004-2005 recipient of the Mathematical Association of America Dolciani-Holloran Foundation Project NExT Fellowship. Dr. Tawfeeq has 17 years of teaching experience at the middle, secondary, and university level. He received his undergraduate degree from Florida A&M University and his graduate degree from Florida State University. Dr. Tawfeeq also worked as a research assistant for the Eisenhower Consortium for Mathematics and Science Education, as well as a program developer for the Florida Collaborative for the Excellence in Teacher Preparation. Dr. Tawfeeq’s professional development facilitation and research interests are in the following areas: 1) Preparedness of African American high school students to nuance the learning of mathematics at the collegiate level; 2) Project and Inquiry Based Learning of Calculus; 3) Pre-Service Teachers of Mathematics Training for High Needs Schools, Professional Development of In-Service Teachers with regards to Japanese Lesson Study and Advanced Placement Calculus; 4) Educational Policy and Mathematics Teacher Education Reform; and 5) Intellectual Identity of Black/African American Male Students. Dr. Tawfeeq has received funding from federal, state, and private agencies. He also has several published works. Dr. Tawfeeq and his wife, Dr. Angela Tawfeeq, have five children.
