Mei-Ling Malone, PhD
Mei-Ling Malone is Copy Editor for the Journal of African American Males in Education (JAAME). Malone teaches education and criminal justice courses at Southwest Community College. Dr. Malone earned her doctorate in the Urban Schooling Division of UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies. Her research examines the historical relationship between the economy, prison industry and urban school districts in California from the 1960s to the present in effort to better understand the rise of a school-to-prison pipeline and the current over-representation of blacks behind bars nationwide and their under-representation in higher education. She also served as a graduate researcher for the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American studies. She holds a masters degree in Race and Ethnic Studies in Education from UCLA and received her bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Law and Society from UC Irvine.
