Theresa A. Harris-Tigg, PhD


Theresa A. Harris-Tigg, Ph.D. (aka Ama Serwa Akoto), is Copy Editor for Journal of African American Males in Education (JAAME). Dr. Harris-Tigg is an Assistant Professor in English, immediate past Coordinator of the English Education (7-12) Program, immediate past Coordinator of the Masters of Science in Education Program, immediate past Chair of the Teacher Education Council (TEC), and National Council Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) point person for the Teacher Education Unit.   She holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from SUNY Buffalo, a Master of Science in Education from Canisius College, and a Bachelor of Arts from D’Youville College.  She is a former Buffalo Public School District High School Reading/ELA Support Specialist and has thirteen (13) years teaching as a Secondary English Teacher, former Clinical Faculty at SUNY Buffalo and Bryant & Stratton College.  Dr. Harris-Tigg is the immediate past President of the Metro Buffalo Alliance of Black School Educators (MBABSE), member of the National Council Teachers of English (NCTE), a Buffalo State College campus affiliate member of the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI), and a board member of the Family Justice Center of Erie County.  Dr. Harris-Tigg’s research interests are urban education and culturally responsive pedagogy.
